Hey, everyone, Chris’s computer is completely dead, and I mean DEAD. So he’s currently shopping for a new computer. So it’s another day of my terrible coloring, though I at least had the time and energy to put a decent amount of effort into this one. Though I seem to have gotten rusty as it look me A LOT LONGER to this than I remember it taking.
Either way, let’s hope that Chris can get a reasonably good computer soon. Not as much for coloring this comic (though I already miss his coloring ;_;), but because he actually makes his living doing design work via his computer. So without a computer, he can’t make a living, and without a living… well, we don’t want him living like Pembroke does. Good luck, Chris.
In other news, this entire comic is actually a sort of hidden homage to something… I wonder what… *ponders* Also did anyone get the joke in the title of Thursday’s comic (yes, the Orson/Wade one)? The first to point out either of these two gags will get a delicious no-prize! Get to guessing!

Krazy Kat, bitch.
Enjoy your delicious no-prize, sir. It’s non-raspberry flavored!
Now point out all four references to Krazy Kat within this comic? :p
Background picture in panel two, Pembroke’s book, the brick, and the shading. I’m only assuming it’s the shading since you’ve never used shading like that in your comic until now.
You have three out of four right. The shading is just coincidental, as I’ve just been experimenting with my inking a lot lately.
Oh, that Igna — er, June…
I rather imagine Offisa Pup having to serve the restraining order.
Also: Gregg Berger did the voice of Grimlock…and Orson. While Howard Morris did Wade. So now we get to see Grimlock doing Wade AUGH THE WORMS THE WORMS GETTEM OUTTA MY HEAD AUUUUUUUUUGH
Yes, Gregg Berger being both Orson and Grimlock has always made me want to see Grimlock randomly bust out into song for no reason.
Oh, and here’s your delicious no-prize, it’s non-chocolate flavored.
HAUGHM NAUGHM NAUGHM
I can see a few things from Krazy Kat here. There is the picture in panel two. The book Pembroke is reading. The brick throwing thing. And the shading in the last panel.
Also the shading of June’s shadow in the flashback and the entire background of the same panel. That moon in the background is most certainly a Krazy Kat moon.
You are REALLY close to what the fourth and final reference is… REALLY CLOSE.
The shading was not part of the referencing, I was just being experimental with my inking.
Well, snap.
I thought the joke in thursdays comic title was “…me…grimlock”.
Ah, Krazy Kat.
Did you know that they animated the strip several times? There was one from 1930s where Krazy was redesigned as a Mickey Mouse look-a-like. Aside from the name, it had nothing to do with the original strip, however.

Then in the ’60s, King Features commissioned a series of cartoons based on their strips. Krazy was one, along with Beetle Bailey and Snuffy Smith. Here’s one episode:

(they only used that design in three episodes; other episodes were farmed out to eastern Europe with Gene Deitch supervising, and he gave the characters a different design)
Oh, I’m very familiar with those works, especially the 60s series (I actually own it on DVD, no less). That episode you linked was the quasi-pilot for the series, Paul Frees makes Ignatz sound significantly less “Boris-esque” in the following episodes.
As for Gene Deitch, I can’t say I minded his designs too much, they still seemed sorta’ Herriman-ish considering how angular and sketchy the later Krazy Kat comics were drawn. Unfortunately they were animated terribly.
I can at least say I like Gene Deitch’s Krazy Kat cartoons better than I liked his Tom and Jerry cartoons… but I don’t know how complimentary that is…
Oh, and that’s Paul Frees voicing Ignatz and Officer Pup in the ’60s series. June Foray was initially Krazy, but she was recast to Penny Philips, who had no other voice credits.
I see you’re starting to line shade your work. It looks awesome!
o.o Junes hair is way brighter for a few panels.
Herriman’s my favorite cartoonist.
Yay Impy and Aevy reference! : D
