Nosey

Yup, Nintendo is NEVER gonna’ let me touch the Mario franchise.

Update: Forgot to mention I’m selling original artwork on eBay. This even includes the original artwork for Jennifur’s first appearance in Femmegasm. Click here to view

About time I review this, huh? The final Dew in the Dewmocracy, Mountain Dew Distortion. It’s a lime/citrus soda, and I have to say it’s overall my least favorite of the bunch. It’s not terrible, but it’s by far not a soda I plan to drink again anytime soon.

My first big problem is it doesn’t taste very much different than White Out. Remember how I said White Out tasted like a lemon lime soda focussed more on the lemon than the lime? Well, Distortion tastes like they reversed it, making a lemon lime soda that focused more on the lime, and no where near as subtle in flavor as White Out, this isn’t just lime it’s LIME.

Now I usually like lime flavored things, but this went a little to crazy and potentially realistic with the flavoring. How do I explain this… ever bit into a lime before? Know how it’s really sour, but with that weird bitter aftertaste to it? Distortion has that exact same taste! Like you bit into a real lime complete with bitter aftertaste. It didn’t seem bad with my first drink, but the more I drank it the worse it got. Blargh! Maybe it will go good with tequila, though…

So yeah, not digging this one much. Like I said, it’s not horrible, the first couple drinks actually were nice and refreshing, but the more that aftertaste poked it’s head out, the more it killed the experience for me. In short, I REALLY want Distortion to lose this contest, and from the looks of the current vote talley, I don’t have to worry about that. Long live White Out and Typhoon!

Zoinks!

Zoinks!

Man, I can’t believe it took me this long to draw a Scooby-Doo related comic. As you may have guessed, today’s comic related more to the new series than any of the original material. Either way, I hope you enjoy it, on to the review.

Today’s review is Wienershcnitzel’s Chili Cheese Fry Burrito, and wow, what an item to review. I have to admit for the longest time I had never eaten at Wienershcnitzel, not sure why, just always heard bad things about it, but when I heard about this value meal item, I had no choice but to try it. Not to mention it was only $1, [Bubsy]what could possibly go wrong[/Busby], and fortunately for me, nothing did.

As you may have guessed the item is exactly what it claims to be. It’s french fries, chili, cheese, all wrapped up in a tortilla. Not exactly stuff I’d think to combine together, but God I’m glad someone did. However I’ve always had the personal belief that a burrito should have refried beans in it, so from this point on I will refer to it as the Chili Cheese Fry Wrap, thank you very much.

What can I say, it’s good, REAL GOOD, REALLY REALLY GOOD, surprisingly so. I actually expected it to be vile, but it’s actually potentially one of the best fast food items I’ve ever tasted, especially for a dollar. It’s also really filling for a $1, too. I think two of those and I’d be good to go. Now before you get onto me about how unhealthy that is, I’ll point out that this item does have all the four major food groups in it. Tortilla = bread/grain, french fries = vegetable/friut, chili = meat, and cheese = dairy. HOW CAN YOU COMPLAIN!

Seriously if you have a Wienershcnitzel near by give this beasty a try, despite how bad it sounds (and honestly it’s not very visually appeasing either), it’s well worth the dollar to get it. It tastes freakin’ awesome, and honestly there’s far worst things you could be eating… like the KFC Double Down. So finally, a fast food item I can recommend you try, it’s fuckin’ yummy.

Die Job

Die Job

A quick comment about today’s strip, it’s a bit of a commentary on a weird anomaly on the Wii version of Cave Story. While all the sprites got a graphical update, almost all of the character portraits for the characters seem to just be smoothed out versions of the original PC portrait images, except for Toroko. For some reason Toroko got a completely new set of portrait pics and a completely new design at that. She went from having a head that looked like a box with rabbit ears to looking more like an adorably pudgy little girl… rabbit-y… thing. There’s nothing bad about it, in fact I like the new design way better than the original (and have based all my drawings of her on the Wii version), but it just seems odd that she gets a redesign and no one else. I can’t find an explanation for it either, so if anyone knows, let me into the loop please.

Now that that’s done, let’s get to the review…

Today I review Mountain Dew White Out, another entry in PepsiCo’s crazy Dewmocracy gimmick and the first thing I have to say about it is this… OMG! IT’S ACTUALLY REALLY WHITE!!! Yeah, white, not clear, white. All the pictures I saw of it before finding a bottle showed it against a white background, so I just assumed it was clear, but no, it’s legitimately white, not like milk white, but still white. I’m not sure how they pulled it off, but it’s amazing just to look at, though I must admit translucent white doesn’t exactly strike me as an appeasing drink color for some reason. It makes me think of bleach or soapy water for some reason. Still the fact they made it white is still an awesome gimmick, though dnL will always get my award for best creative coloring.

So what’s the soda taste like? It tastes pretty damn good, kinda’ like Squirt if you remember that… but better. If you don’t remember that, then think Sprite, but amp up the lemon more than the lime. So despite it calling itself a “citrus flavored drink” (I thought Mountain Dew normal was a citrus flavored drink), it’s more a LEMON-lime soda. Amazing though, is despite the lemon dominating the flavor palette of the soda, the flavor of the soda tends to be rather subdued for an MD drink. The soda’s taste is rather subtle or light, which oddly makes it kind of refreshing for a soda. I actually enjoy it quite a bit. It’s lemony, with a bit of lime and a small sugary taste. It’s honestly quite good, but I imagine most Dew fans won’t like it for not being EXTREME enough.

Regardless I like it, not as much as Typhoon, mind you, but overall it’s my second to favorite of the new Dews, and definitely one I want to drink more of.

The Heat Of The Night

The Heat Of The Night

That guy… thing… has good reasoning.

Hey, everyone, guess what? THERE’S NEW MOUNTAIN DEW FLAVORS!!! Why? Because Mountain Dew is doing their vote on the new flavor routine again. So what they do is create three new flavors and then have all of us democratic bastards vote on which soda we like the best and they keep that soda on the market and retire the other two. It’s a fun little gimmick, even if I wasn’t particularly fond of the winner of the last time they did this. Still a fun idea, though if PepsiCo keeps this up, Mountain Dew flavors are going to over populate their catalog of sodas. Keep this up and Mountain Dew will become the new Fanta or Faygo.

Anyways, to the point, yesterday I tried one of the new flavors named “Mountain Dew Typhoon” (the other two are “White-Out” and “Distortion”). Typhoon is claims to be a Tropical Punch flavored drink, but further research proved that it’s actually a strawberry-pineapple flavored soda. This got me a bit skeptical, because I’m not really a fan of strawberry flavored sodas and candies and I dislike pineapples. I’ll eat them, but I don’t really like them. So I went into this soda expecting it to be terrible, but to my surprise, it was actually good. Real good!

The strawberry and pineapple flavors mix really well together kind of like they’re countering the things I don’t like about each flavor. The strawberry keeps the pineapple taste from being too strong, while the pineapple keeps the strawberry from being too sweet. It’s a surprisingly great taste.

The only complaint I have is that the soda has more sugar than Mountain Dew: Throwback (by a few mgs) and you can tell. It’s definitely got a really sugary kinda’ candy taste to it. While I don’t mind my soda tasting like candy and I can see how it would be offsetting to other people, and the sugary taste does get a bit overpowering in the last sips of the soda.

So overall I like it, and I will most likely keep drinking it while it’s around. Granted I don’t like it near as much as I like Mountain Dew Livewire or Mountain Dew Throwback, I can safely say that I will drink Mountain Dew Typhoon as long as it’s available to the public, it just might not be my first choice.

Now to try the other two…

June Likes Sausage

June Likes Sausage

Today’s comic actually centers around a somewhat offensive statement I made when I went to the BBQ resteraunt Bone Daddy’s here in Texas. They had a sandwich that was called, “The Flying Pig”. It consisted of honey glazed ham, bacon, pulled pork, pork sausage, and a lot of BBQ sauce. My response to reading it was “Holy crap, there’s enough pork here to kill a Jew!” And thus I ate the sandwich, it was sadly disappointing, I should’ve gotten the ribs instead.

Anywho, I do think it might be a good idea for me to mention that I do not have anything against the Jewish. I’ve got friends who are Jewish and they are awesome. I’m just joking around. Granted I do also kinda’ live by a line my Dad once said, “I’m not racist, I hate everyone equally.” So please, have a sense of humor about this and don’t take offense of the comic.

Though you can take offense to June, she is kind of an insensitive bitch.

Pho Shizzle

Pho Shizzle

Hey, kids! It’s ALF!

For those too young to know (which would mean you’re what… 10), ALF was from a TV show of the same name. He was an alien from the planet Melmac, and he liked to eat cats. I’m serious, he even got a cartoon show, too. The 80s were weird times.

As for the other subject of this comic, Pho, it’s a Vietnamese noodle soup dish. It’s very good. It also seems to be a rather popular food item here in Dallas since you can’t seem to go a block with out hitting a Pho restaurant. I’m not kidding, it’s everywhere, and for good reasons, it’s tasty. If you’ve never had Pho, I’d highly recommend trying it.

Crazy Salamander Gibberish

Crazy Salamander Gibberish

Sorry that the comic is late. I had the comic done WAY in advance, I just forgot to upload it. Yesterday was an incredibly busy day, being my birthday and all, but that’s still no excuse for me forgetting this. I’m sorry, everyone, and I’ll do my best to prevent this from happening again.

This comic is based on one of my own experiences at a Churrascaria/Brazillian Steakhouse styled restaurant. For those who have never been to one of these, you basically have a little coaster that says stop and go on it. When it’s flipped to “go” waiters start coming to your table bringing you meats of all kinds imaginable and you get to pick what you want and what you don’t want. When you flip the coaster to “stop”, then the waiters leave you alone.

You get to eat as much food as you want, and there’s also a salad bar of sorts that have additional food you can eat. The Churrascaria that I tend to favor, Rafains, also tend to give the patrons an endless supply of fried bananas and garlic mashed potatoes while you dine. So you definitely get a wide variety of foods to try.

Churrascaria is slowly growing to be one of my favorite dining establishments, unfortunately they are also hella’ expensive, so I tend not to go to them very often. But man, if I could I’d definitely would like to visit them a lot more. Maybe when I win the lottery.

Anyways, this comic is based on one such Churrascaria visit where I ate every single type of meat that was offered to me. For the most part, this was all pretty typical stuff. However when I least expected, a waiter came up to me and asked me if I’d be interested in eating a “chicken heart”. Well, I’ve never eaten such an item, and it didn’t sound all that appeasing, but it was small and I tried everything else, so I figured “What the hell” and told him I would eat one. After much hesitation, I eventually tried the chicken’s tiny artery filling organ.

In short, I didn’t like it. It didn’t taste bad, in fact, it pretty much tasted like dark chicken meat. It was the texture that I didn’t like. It was squishy, slimy, and just plain weird feeling. The weird hollowness of the organ didn’t help either. But at least I now know that I don’t like chicken hearts as a dinner subject. I also learned that eating a chicken’s heart doesn’t give me the powers of a chicken. Darn.
